PANTONE Studio App Reviews

Works fine for me!

This was pretty easy and addictive!! Once I got past the initial sign-up and agreed to the terms, the app dropped me right into being able to browse the color palettes. Click the camera icon and take or choose an existing photo. The app chooses 5 colors from the pic to highlight as the "palette" but move your finger around the image and choose exactly which color youd like to highlight. Variations appear at the top and you can drag the one you like to the palette at the bottom. Super easy to use and great for putting together outfits or decorating rooms based on an art piece or inspiration photo. You can share the palette, send to another device or clear the colors and start over. The email embeds the pantone info and includes attachments (.color, .ase, and .qci). What a great tool for working with clients and sharing your vision!

Great app

This is great for a quick spot check. It includes many Pantone charts. What a deal to have them this cheap, and on my phone. Due to the fact iPhone uses its own color management (or lack there of) I was unsure how accurate the swatches would be on the screen. I must say they look pretty darn close to the real Pantone charts. Well as close as a little glowing box can get. The photo tagging option is also a great little extra for working with customers that want to tag old art with Pantones. Gets you in the ball park of a match if not dead on. Right on the spot. The search feature is also nice. What can I say. I love this app. Worth every penny. If you do graphic design or run a printer… You need this app.

This app is amazing for a designer

I am baffled at the amount of negative reviews this app has. This app not only includes all the Pantone books that are simple to fan through, you can also take a picture and pinpoint out individual Pantone colors out of the picture and save them. The app will also give you all the harmony Pantones of any Pantone you choose. Then once you have all the Pantones you want you can just email the pallete directly out of the app. It makes choosing colors easy and you dont have to carry around the Pantone books with you. Highly recommend!!

Nice App

Great app for picking colors on the go and for quick viewing. Great app for graphic designers! My only complaint is that I wish the app could save/add more than 5 colors to the pallet. I am emailing the swatches to myself and importing them into Illustrator. Would be nice to have one larger swatch pallet to import than a bunch of small ones with only 5 in them in it.

Great app

It gets the colors pretty close. Very useful.

Does this app work with iOS 7?

The web site where they post non-existent tech support only refers to iOS 6, and the camera feature keeps crashing. Just purchased, and so far not-so-good.

This app is great

It has so many features. I think this is a great app! iPhone 5s iOS 7.1.1

One MAJOR flaw

There is one MAJOR BUG that has gone undetected for at least the past two years that I have owned this app. The color picker is a semi-transparent grey circle sheer meant to look like a magnifying glass. Problem is, PANTONE IS PICKING UP THE COLOR OF ITS OWN COLOR PICKER IN THE READING! In other words: Pantone is ADDING THE GREY COLOR OF THE COLOR PICKER TO THE COLOR READING, creating a bias in every color; even RGB. The app is great, except for this stupid bug. Since the color picker is what I need most from this app, I am giving it one star. If you dont use the picker, I would give it five stars.

So close…

The interface is actually great and I like the option to choose fan deck or page view, but there is one crucial factor missing here: there are no labels to orient you to what part of the deck youre in. For an app that fully admits that its for quick reference only, it would really be nice to be able to quickly fan through to a page youre familiar with and show it to a client. Sure, you can search, but then theres no way to bring up that colors page to see it in context. As a rough color reference its good, but as a Pantone product that superficially attempts to act as an extension of their physical product it fails miserably. Maybe they should pull the resources from the departments that cheapen the brand (looking at you coffee mug and umbrella dept.) and focus on the professionals that are willing to spent $10 on a color app.

Needs Update

This comes in very handy for work. Especially for color harmonies. Please, please update for iOS 8!!!!!!!!!!

Love it

I have one of their old devices that can read colors, as well as all their various swatch books. This app gives me all of that right on my phone. What a great app.

Pantone XREF

As an aside. Did anyone else have Pantone XREF and have it mysteriously disappear?

Please fix this bug!

The color picker has a grey tint which alters the result to a grey bias. I realized this when I was using it for a white background I need to match up. Very annoying. Please fix!!

Missing Colors

Some of the colors are missing. I have the on my PMS book. Ex: PMS 2374C This is the same on illustrator and on the xrite cross reference chart.

Searching lacks

Make the search function search all libraries. Don’t make me load 1 swatch book at a time and repeat the search every time over and over. And for god sakes have the search field default to number entry. Expensive app for cumbersome function.

iOS 8 Update

New update and UI are great! Love this app for all kinds of design projects.

helpful

I use this app for color inspiration and matching. It really helps with my color selections. I like being able to share the palettes and save them online at the pantone site. Id like to be able to save and load saved palletes. Im looking forward to the extended gamut collection being added. Crossing my fingers for a next release soon. :)

Confusing

Im a novice at graphic web design. If I type in rose quartz one would think that the swatch would show up with its cmyk/html web friendly codes. I cant even find the COTY on here. It shouldnt take a phD degree to find your most popular colors. How abour a fan deck just for COTY or Cotton Blends or the other trillion collections youve concocted. App looks great but for $10 Im expecting to find what I need quickly. Frustrated

Latest colors absent

Have both Fire and iOS versions, and all went swimmingly until Fall 2016, then what the heck, Pantone. I came to rely on your apps, which are not inexpensive as apps go by any means. Have put about $25 into them. I rarely spend anywhere near that on any app. Now, I type in a new color and stare at a blank page. Not cool.

Can’t get the color right

I thought this application would allow me to take a photo of something and match it to a Pantone color. Problem is that when I take a photograph on the Iphone and then hold the Iphone up to what I just took a photo of it’s completely different. I’ve tried adjusting the exposure when taking the photo to match but it’s a different tone, something I can’t adjust. There needs to be a way to adjust the Iphone camera to match what I’m photographing but if there is I haven’t found it yet. A lot of money for an application that I can’t trust. If I can’t trust it then I can’t use it.
